Chris Hudson

On Saturday 30th April, Chris Hudson was licensed as a minister in the Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland, following five years of arduous part time preparation. It was a historic occasion because Chris is the first minister ever to be licensed by the Synod of Munster. It was a lovely occasion too, enjoyed by members of the Dublin congregation, Chris’s friends and family, and visitors from the north. We were very pleased to have Rev. Brian Cockcroft, President of the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches, deliver the call to the ministry. On the next day, Sunday 1st May, Chris took his first service as a minister. The congregation was treated to some outstanding musical performances on both occasions, and, on the Sunday, it was particularly delightful to see the Brass Band of the Communication Workers’ Union fill the coffee area at the back of the church, and to hear its music fill the church. In his address, Chris stressed that his transition from trade union activity to church ministry was not a radical break, but was really part of a continuing commitment to social concern. We congratulate Chris, and wish him well in his future ministry.
On Sunday 22nd May, we were visited by over thirty members of the Rosemary Street Church in Belfast, who were returning a visit we paid to them last autumn. After the service we all repaired to the Damer Hall for some excellent refreshments, and took the opportunity to get to know our friends from the north a little better. Further visits both ways are planned.
