Towards Beloved Community
On Sunday 29th July, Rev. Cal Courtney will be taking the service in Dublin. He will be speaking about his book, Towards Beloved Community, which has just been published by Exposure Press in Britain.
The book is a reworking of a series of brilliant talks given at the Unitarian Summer School in Great Hucklow during the summer of 2005, in which Cal explored the idea that the real object of religion is not metaphysical speculation or the establishing of shared beliefs but the ‘promotion of a community that opens its arms to the world beyond, through a sense of shared suffering and through an appreciation of the mystery which is so often rejected in our culture’.
Scholarly but accessible, witty but profound, this book, Cal’s first, will undoubtedly secure his reputation as a seminal thinker within contemporary Unitarianism.
It is available now on Amazon, price £9.99, but I’m sure he will bring a supply with him for sale on 29th July.
