Summer Walks
I will be leading two walks around parts of Dublin during the summer season and hope that you can join me for a few hours to learn more about the history of our congregation and perhaps something of Dublin and its people. The routes are not on the traditional tourist trail but will take in places which are of historic interest to the Unitarian and Protestant Dissenting tradition including the sites of our earliest Meeting Houses and the people associated with them. The walks are loosely themed to reflect the roots and development of the Dublin Unitarian Church.
Sunday 19th July
Non Conformity, The Commonwealth, Ejection and Dissent
Walk 1 will take in the sites of the Wood Street, Cook Street and New Row Meeting Houses and some other buildings and places of general historical interest in the earliest parts of the city.
Sunday 2nd August
New Light Presbyterianism, Rebellion, and the Liberal Thread.
Walk 2 will take in the sites of the Mary’s Abbey, Strand Street and Eustace Street Meeting Houses and conclude at the Stephens Green Church. Along the route we will also learn something of how the city developed over the centuries.
----------------
Both walks will commence directly after Service and will last for about 2 to 2.5 hours. Questions, contributions and alternative points of view will be taken but not necessarily entertained !!
