SIMPLICITY

Our day is but a path we tread,
a gentle walk among possibilities.
We are not promised tomorrow.
In all its beauty and complexity, today is all we have.
We become artists when we see
with our hearts and not our eyes.
To make acquaintance of a tree
is to gain the counsel of a wise
and compassionate friend.
Ask large questions, seek small answers
for there the secret lies.
I watch the songbirds at the feeder now.
They move in a flurry and peck at the seed.
Man looks for God and thinks of Him concealed,
but in earth's common things He stands revealed.
