Ouroboros Presents

Myrmidons:
An Epic Story of Love, Pride and Revenge

The world premiere of Myrmidons by Mike Poulton will run at The Samuel Beckett Theatre from Wednesday 30th August to Saturday 9th September at 8pm plus matinees.
Written by Mike Poulton who was responsible for adapting Schiller's Don Carlos for last year's hit UK production and whose acclaimed version of The Cantebury Tales for the RSC is now running in London's West End. Mike Poulton was Tony Award nominated for his 2002 play Fortune's Fool, for which Alan Bates and Frank Langella won Tony awards.
Myrmidons is a new and original piece based on a few surviving fragments of a lost Aeschylus play telling a well-known story from the Trojan Wars. It tells the central tale from Homer’s Iliad: Achilles, a Demi-God and the Greeks' best warrior, is refusing to fight. While he broods in his tent, the Trojans are swarming into the Greek camp, burning their ships. Only Achilles can save them. What will it take to make him fight?
The play is written in the traditional tragic style, using heightened, powerful poetic language and a chorus. The Ouroboros production will feature some of Ireland’s most talented and best-known actors.
Dublin based Ouroboros Theatre Ireland Ltd was born out of the Theatreworks Company in June 2004. Led by Artistic Director Denis Conway, Ouroboros has sought to stage plays rarely seen in Ireland. We look forward to welcoming you to The Samuel Beckett Centre on the above dates.
