We are delighted to have Josh Johnston as our new organist in the church, and we thought you might like to know something about him. Music has been part of his life since he was a little boy. He started to play the piano at the age of seven. He graduated from Salford University near Manchester in 1997 with a BA(Hons) in Popular Music and Recording. On his return to Ireland he did a variety of jobs before deciding to pursue music fulltime in late 1999. He has released two CDs, one on his own (“Three Friends”) and an album of swing jazz originals and standards with National Symphony Orchestra violinist, David McKenzie (“A Minor Happiness”). Josh works regularly with David, with whom he writes, records and performs (you can listen to some sample tracks from their CD on : www.davidandjosh.com). He also works with many singers, songwriters and soloists across the rock, jazz, pop, folk and classical fields, most notably with Birr singer/songwriter Roesy, with whom he records and tours regularly. He is no stranger to church choirs, having sung with the Monkstown Church of Ireland church choir under Siobhán Kilkelly, with whom he also studied the organ. In his remaining spare time he plays for weddings and funerals and accompanies exams and recitals for choirs, classical singers and soloists. There’s lots more information on Josh’s website www.joshjohnston.com , and if you’d like to hear him perform live with David McKenzie, why not drop in to their next gig on :-
