JOHNNY WARD

on TG4’s GLOR TIRE
Be sure to tune in to TG4 on Wednesday 2nd November at 10pm to watch Johnny Ward, who you may also recognise as Kurt Whelan, the young footballer from RTE’s “Fair City”. Johnny is through to the final of Glor Tire, TG4’s new country music talent competition. 18 year old Johnny has already been seen performing on the programme, singing Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”. On Wednesday next you can see him singing “When You Say Nothing At All” and “The Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” which he will perform as a duet with Helen McCabe and her band. The programme will be repeated on Friday 4th November at 8pm.
Johnny recently returned from Salou, Spain where he was M.C. and solo singer in his own show in the Salou Pacific Hotel. Johnny has been singing and performing since he was three years old when he sang a solo on Den TV. Johnny and his sister, Susan were introduced by Gay Byrne singing the duet “I’d Do Anything” on the Late Late Toy Show in December 1995 ten years ago. In 1998 Johnny landed the part of Gavroche in the Cameron Mackintosh production of “Les Miserables” at the Point Depot in Dublin starring alongside Colm C.T. Wilkinson. Johnny and his sisters have an unbelievably large collection of trophies and medals between them for all kinds of performing arts from competitions all over Ireland.
Johnny has just finished appearing in a film about the Stardust disaster which will be on television later this year in which he plays the part of David Flood, a heroic young man who died in the fire trying to rescue his girlfriend.
If you happen to be in the midlands area on Monday 31st October (Halloween Night) you can also hear Johnny on Mayor of Longford, Frank Kilbride’s Shannonside Radio programme.
