Tracy Harper and Paul McAndrews organised the celebrations. On Saturday Princes St Unitarian Church hosted an afternoon meditation service followed by an evening concert. Sunday was “Peace in the Park Day”. Bishop Lucey Park was alive with music, chanting, massage therapy and meditation services. Peace envoys attended from Enniskillen, and Wales. The central part of the Service was the lighting of peace candles, blessings from different religious traditions and a walk for peace through the centre of Cork City. There were a variety of religious traditions represented at the event- Unitarian, Catholic, Muslim, Hindu and Pagans. A “Peace Scroll” made by Fionnuala Conroy (see back cover) was carried in the procession. Some time ago Fionnuala was inspired to create the scroll. The Scroll is made from small pieces of material less than an inch square sewn together. So far it contains several thousand pieces of material. Fionnuala asks people to cut two pieces of material and to use them to meditate on peace. One piece is kept and the other is sent to Fionnuala who incorporates it into her “Peace Scroll”. Everyday Fionnuala uses the scroll as a focus to meditate for peace. This is Fionnuala’s unique contribution towards peace. For more information about the scroll see the peace scroll The day was good fun, well organised and a good way of getting our Unitarian message into the public domain.
