Following interesting articles on their beliefs by Keith Troughton and Jennifer Flegg in recent issues of Oscail, and inspired by the thought-provoking Credos read by the three girls at the Coming of Age ceremony, I thought it might be an idea if we were to find a space in the Church to display the rest of the congregation's credos. As a Church we are very much orientated towards searching for our own truths, so why not put them on display, so that others can see where we're at, and discuss our ideas with us? I know I'd be interested to know what others believe, and in sharing ideas on the subject. It might also give visitors to the Church an idea of the variety of views held by the congregation. Obviously the display format would have to allow for changes (as we all reserve the right to change our minds!), such as a kind of notice board where people could pin up a card with their credo. If anyone is interested or thinks this is a good idea, could they let me or Bill know, and then we can see where it might go from there? Catherine Bates. |
