BAKKA JUNIOR SCHOOL UGANDA With help from friends in Ireland, and in our church, Bakka Junior school in Uganda continues to expand. The Junior School of Bakka Village, which started in a small house without doors or windows on the main street 9 years ago, has now moved to new premises. This is mainly due to the far-seeing vision of the Headmaster Samuel Mayanja, who has spear-headed the venture and his Irish contact Dorene Groocock, a member of Dublin Unitarian church. The community village of Bakka, is about 20 miles from Kampala, Uganda. The school is up and running, electricity is on stream, and numbers at the school are rising. There remains much work to be done, however, to complete the building properly and satisfy health regulations. I hope that the congregation will continue to help. Dorene has received an urgent appeal for funds from Samuel Mayanja. He has spent his budget carrying out repairs to the school building, with the result that the eleven teachers have not been paid for several months. A teacher is paid €70 per month. The collection will be made on Sunday 30th May. Thank you all for your support in the past — it has made a tremendous difference.
